THE EXPERIENCE
The Advanced Open Water Diver course is perhaps the funest, most exciting PADI course in its curriculum as it consists of five (5) specialized dive immersions that will help you build confidence and expand your diving skills.
Including the Underwater Navigation and Deep Diving specialties as required, you get to choose three (3) additional specialties like Peak-Performance Buoyancy, Night Diving, Digital Imaging, Search & Recovery, Fish Identification, Drift Diving, Boat Diving, and Underwater Naturalist, among others.
No final exam required on this one, just a lot of bottom time fun! ♥
TRAINING DETAILS

- Duration – Typically completed in two (2) days, unless selecting the Night Dive specialty as an elective to complete on a 3rd day of training.
- Private Tours – This is a unique service that we are happy to offer when only one participant has signed up and for customers wanting to receive a higher level of personalized attention with an exclusive PADI Instructor. The price is double, but it will allow you to schedule at your best convenience and optimize the quality of your training.
STEP BY STEP
The course is offered in two (2) stages:
1.Knowledge Development: The Advanced Diver course is the only core training offered by PADI that does not include a final exam. Instead, this training is more about acquiring a deeper level of practice, confidence, and experience in advanced diving scenarios. Kindly enter here to enroll and complete the theory portion of your five (5) advanced specialties directly with PADI.COM. You are certainly welcome to complete all the advanced specialties online, but only required to do the five (5) you’ll be completing. Be sure to select Scuba Dogs when purchasing in the PADI digital platform to avoid the $50 processing fee.
2. Advanced Specialty Dives: You will complete a total of three (3) advanced open water immersions on your first day at either the Escambrón Marine Park or Copamarina Resort, and then complete the remaining two (2) specialty dives boat diving in Copamarina Beach Resort & Spa. This will potentially allow for you to gain experience both shore and boat diving, as well as complete the required training including the deep dive exploring “The Wall” in GuánicAmazing located in the southwest side of Puerto Rico. If due to adverse marine conditions or diving logistics the boat is not available, the required Deep Dive will then be completed at another suitable location such as Crash Boat Beach in Aguadilla.
Once completed, you’ll be officially a PADI Advanced Diver ready to dive down to 100 feet (30 meters) with your buddy and join more exciting, advanced excursions with the proper training. You are now also ready to continue to more advanced trainings like learning how to save a life with the Rescue Diver and Emergency First Response courses.

- Theory Review – Thorough briefings on all advanced training specialties with your PADI Instructor
- Open Water Training – Five (5) open water training sessions, including boat diving excursion to Copamarina Resort in Guánica or Crash Boat Beach in Aguadilla
- Certified Professionals – PADI Instructors; fully trained and certified
- PADI Certification – Processing fee to generate the required digital certificate ($50 certification processing fee only applies if Scuba Dogs is not the selected dive center when purchased with PADI)
WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED
Consider the following options for your adventure:
- Swim Wear – Please bring a bathing suit; rash guard or wetsuit is available for purchase or rent
- Snorkeling & Advanced Gear – As an advanced diver, we strongly recommend that you have your own mask, snorkel, fins, dive light, and compass for navigation. If purchased at Scuba Dogs on or before your 1st training day, you will receive a 20% discount on all items purchased. You may also choose to rent for $20 per day.
- Transportation – Rental car, taxi or Uber are recommended
CRITERIA TO JOIN
All participants must meet the following requirements for this service:
- Skills – Scuba diving basic certification from an internationally recognized agency (PADI, SSI, NAUI, SDI, TDI, CMAS, RAID, BSAC, GUE)
- Age – Minimum 12 y/o. If 10 or 11 years old, you may do it as a private service (double rate)
- Guardian Approval – Minors under 18 years old must obtain an adult guardian approval to participate
- Safety First – All participants must be in good health. Kindly fill out and submit this medical waiver to confirm you are safe. If you have a health issue, you are required to see your physician for a medical approval.
- Liability Release – All aquatic experiences always have a certain level of risk, thus a liability release must be filled and signed by all participants
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Following are answers to some of the most common questions and concerns:
- What is the Advanced Diver certification? It is the next step after Open Water certification. The course helps you build confidence, expand your skills, and explore different types of diving such as deep diving, navigation, night diving, and more.
- Do I need to be an experience diver to take this course? No. You only need to be a certified Open Water diver. Many divers take the Advanced course immediately after their Open Water certification to gain a deeper level of mastery and feel safe joining dive trips in new destinations.
- How deep will I go? You will complete one Deep Adventure Dive to a maximum of 100 feet (30 meters).
- What is the difference between the “Junior Advanced” and the “Advanced Diver” course? It is virtually the same training requiring the same skills, but upon completion the children between 10-14 years old obtain the “Junior” certificate with a recommendation to dive no deeper than 21 meters / 70 feet.
- What happens if I can’t complete the skills? It will be up to you. Depending on the gravity of the case being perhaps just 1 or 2 skills vs. several issues, you may want to pay an extra day of training or get certified as PADI Adventure Diver instead if meeting those standards, or simply leave the course incomplete. We will certainly do everything in our power to help you complete all the training requirements, but kindly understand that a person’s inability to complete certain skills is not a shortcoming on Scuba Dogs.
- How long is the certification valid? Lifetime. Although refresher sessions are recommended whenever you feel a bit rusty or haven’t dived in a while. The industry standard is over one (1) year without diving.
